“Friday the 13th” follows a group of camp counselors at Camp Crystal Lake, a place that superstitious locals think is cursed. However, the counselors are not deterred by this until a string of murders occurs. This movie is extremely cheesy. The murders looked staged and in one scene you can see a “dead body” twitch. The film has a lot of scenes with no purpose but to fill time. There are long stretches of time in between the murders and the teenagers are completely clueless to the fact that they are being hunted. The movie would have been more interesting if the teenagers knew something wanted to kill them. Then they might have spent more time hiding from the killer than playing strip Monopoly, the version of Monopoly where you pay in clothes when you land on someone’s property. A frustration I had with the movie was that the characters resemble many stereotypical horror movie characters, in that they are not very bright. If something wants to kill you, simply run. However, the ending of the film did keep me on my toes. I found it enthralling, and I could not stop watching the climax unfold. “Friday the 13th” was tacky, but it had some good qualities. I would recommend it if you want to watch a tame horror movie, or if you are just curious about what makes it so iconic.  Ranking: 3/5

“Halloween” is about a group of kids who spend Halloween being stalked by an insane asylum escapee. Considering its status as an iconic horror movie, it was pretty tame. It has cheesy looking murders and a slow-moving plot which led to a disappointing and uneventful movie. Due to the film’s popularity, I was anticipating a more exciting climax. As someone who is terrified of slasher films, I was not scared at all even at the height of the movie. The characters in the movie are frustratingly clueless. They spend a lot of the movie gossiping and are utterly unaware of the psychopath on their doorstep. It would have been a better film if they knew they were being hunted and spent time trying to evade the antagonist. I spent most of the movie sitting on my couch, being bored and waiting for some suspense. On the other hand, the soundtrack for the film was perfect. I could always tell when the antagonist was going to show up. Jamie Lee Curtis’ performance as Laurie was excellent. Her character possessed some common sense, which is rare for a teenager in a horror film. However, I still did not find this film enjoyable. It is too tame to serve the purpose of a horror movie. There is no gore or violence, and the ending was not surprising. I would not recommend this movie if you are looking for a good scare or even looking to feel fazed. Ranking 2.5/5

Altogether, these movies include little violence and are missing the fear factor horror movies should give you. However, if you are looking for a horror film on the tame side, these are the films for you. If you want to check out these films: grab some snacks, grab a pumpkin spice latte and start watching. We hope you like these films, and let us know in the comments if you agree with our ratings.
